Green Dragon Internal Handicap League...

Overview ...

If you wish to take part in the 2008 GDB Summer Handicap League - please contact Jo or Dave before May 1st!

The archery handicap system was created by GNAS and is designed to help archers of all skill levels compete at an equal level at certain handicap events/tournaments. GNAS came up with a set of tables for archers to use in order to gain their handicap rating (HR).

There is a different handicap table for each type of round that can be shot. For example: your handicap rating for a “Western” will be different from your “Short Metric” handicap.

The handicap ratings are from 100 to 0. The lower the handicap rating (eg. 5) the better the archer will be. If, however, you are a novice, your handicap rating may be 72. Each rating has a “points allowance” – the better the archer, the less points allowance they will be given.

The handicap ratings are worked out using a range of scores. For example: a “Short Metric” average score of 575 gives a handicap of 36, while an average score of 568 gives a handicap of 37. If an archer has an average score which falls between these figures it will always be rounded down to the lower score.

At the start of each new season the organiser re-assess the handicaps for all archers that took part in the league during the previous season. This new handicap will be that archers starting handicap for the new league season. If an archer has not taken part in the league before, or has not shot 3 complete rounds of any type, then that archer will need to shoot 3 league rounds (as below) during April/May in order to achieve a handicap. The highest of these 3 scores will then be used as their league score for those months.

The detail

1) All rounds shot will be on a 122cm face using the Imperial scoring system (1, 3, 5, 7, 9).
2) Juniors will shoot a Junior Warwick round which is 2 doz arrows at 40yds & 2 doz at 30yds.
3) Seniors will shoot a Short Warwick round which is 2 doz arrows at 50yds & 2 doz at 40yds.
4) Archers are allowed 6 sighters at the start of a round, but if additional league rounds are shot on one day, no additional sighters will be allowed.
5) A League Round may be shot on any day, given that 6 (below) is adhered to.
6) A League Round is only valid if the round has been completed on one day and the score sheet has been signed by a target captain (fellow archer).
7)The league will run from 1st May to 30th September and a total of 5 rounds will be shot by all archers taking part. Only 1 scoring round is needed during May (3 for new participants) and then 1 round each month until the end of September.
